ChaosNinja89′s Game Review – Mirror’s Edge

ChaosNinja89 in his native habitat.

Well because of my great Dad, after numerous threats and beatings, I have decided to help contribute to this website…lousy Dad isn’t even paying me…..

Also I’ve always wanted to have my say about games I play since I use 99.9% of my brain capacity on games.

Anyway my first review will be about Mirror’s Edge and I rate games on a scale from 0 to 10 and I will also rate different parts of the game (graphics, control, story etc, etc) point out the good parts, the bad parts, the weird parts and the unbelievably annoying parts :D

Well I’m going to have to give Mirror’s Edge a 9 out of 10 it may have its flaws but this game is just too good to get anything lower.

Graphics :8
Controls :10
Story :7
Replay value :10
Fun :9

The Good: Great graphics and a good first person view that really draws you in and the controls are easy to master but finding the best route is quite challenging, The story is….pretty good but kind of slow but finishes with a nice BANG.

The story really starts as Faith, your character, doing a bit of training and then going on a mission to deliver a package…across the rooftops, Faith belongs to a group called Runners who deliver sensitive information across the city quick and, sometimes, discreetly, they were formed because of the massive amount of surveillance going on in the city.

The mission seems to be going pretty well until you run into some cops, who shouldn’t really bother Runners but for some reason these cops decide to start shooting at you and you have to get away from them and get to Celeste, another experienced Runner and good friend of Faith, you give her the bag and make a great escape, now you must find out what is going on and after that the story really escalades, gets a bit dull for a chapter or 2, you learn some interesting things and the cool thing is while you’re playing this game you seem to start thinking like a Runner yourself and stop needing the help of Runners Vision, so by time you reach hard mode you won’t need it :P

Also a lot of the Achievements (if you are playing on a Xbox 360) are challenging in a good way, normal difficulty is way to easy if you shoot enemies but if you aim for the Test Of Faith Achievement (go through the game without shooting a enemy) it makes it so much more fun and challenging, when you get to hard you might want to pick up a gun once in a while so Faith doesn’t get dumped in the river before she gets any answers…

Also I like how all of it seems very likely to happen, there is already a lot of surveillance in some places of the world, only a matter of time before some group like the Runners is really formed.

The Bad: Not really that many things bad about this game, you might run into a glitch or 2 and sometimes Faith can fall a fairly good height and just roll…or sometimes she will fall a height half to that and become a red stain on the roof….that is one of the bad parts because you can’t really rely on experience with jumping…

The Weird: really not much weird in this game, the programmers get a cookie for that!

The Unbelievably Annoying Parts That Make You Want To Kill Something Small And Furry: one word…Speedruns…they aren’t all bad, some are pretty simple once you figure out the routes but then there are some that one tiny mistake means a complete start over like Chapter 2: Jacknife, that one is a nightmare…it really really ticked me off when i was going to be able to make it within the time limit after many tries and then suddenly I run into the infamous third pipe glitch where Faith won’t jump to the third pipe but insted leap feebly towards it and, in most cases, plummet to her death, Owch.

Forgetting the Speedruns, this game is just great, if you can’t stand a challenge or have a history of breaking stuff when you lose your temper, don’t get this game, if you enjoy first person games, puzzle games, and tough challenges, GET THIS GAME NOW!!!!!!

Well hopefully this review is good enough that my Dad doesn’t hang me by my toes in the dungeon.

I certainly had as much fun writing this review as you had reading it…that is if you had King Cobras and Rattle Snakes biting your neck while you were reading this….

I think that this is an excellent review of the game, but I do have to say that I think the graphics should have got a 10/10 because they tried something new and it looks damn good.
