My Cat is Turning Into a Duck

CookieduckYesterday our cat, Cookie, came back into the house after having been out terrorizing the neighborhood strays.

If you lived in Taipei you would know that for Cookie this is a full time job demanding a great deal of her attention.

Last year was easier for her because there was one huge stray tomcat in the area that controlled the entire block with a vengeance. That cat was really tough!

One night it was outside our bedroom window yowling loudly for ages. Even though I opend the window and yelled back at it and made lots of (what I thought) “scary to a cat” noises this thing just sat there staring at me through the window screen.

Eventually I got out of bed and went out the front door to chase it off. I was pretty annoyed by then so I picked up a stone from the garden and hurled it with all my strength at this stupid cat.

Much to my surprise I actually hit the thing right between the eyes! The rock bounced off its head, it blinked at me… then turned and slowly walked away with an air of complete disdain. Like I said… tough cat!

A few months ago we noticed the absence of the King Cat and surmised that he had in fact demised as would be expected in for a cat living rough in Taipei.

Soon after that the noise levels at night grew once more to fever pitch until eventually I went out one night to see who the new topcat was.

I discovered that because all the leftover cats from the original tribe were young they were easily fooled and my cat Cookie had taken advantage of that situation. Cookie had assumed the role of Kin… err Queen Cat of the block.

Anyway those young cats are growing up and Cookie is having a harder and harder time keeping it all under control these days.

It takes a lot of yelling and sceaming and yowling to maintain one’s position in the street cat world of Taipei and that hard work takes its toll.

Listen to Cookie now… not very threatening really.

  • That’s too funny!

Cookie actually sounds more “horse” than duck. Must be all that howling at night. Probably just the youngins refusing to listen to her. You know Taipei kids ~lol

Good luck with that control thing Cooks ~~
