Some things I don’t like about Taiwan…
There’re not many but here’s one:
I went to our local park today, a park which has a very nice ornamental bridge and a large lake where people fish – but stuck in front of this lake at every vantage point were large signs that said (in translation): “If you have come here to commit suicide by drowning please call this number below. Life is good and worth living. Don’t do it! Call this number now!â€
Now of course no one wants anyone to commit suicide, certainly not in the lake, but suicides are a tiny, tiny minority – at least the ones who think the way to go is to dive into the murky waters of the park lake – so why totally destroy any sense of relaxation or joy at being out of the house and in Nature by plastering these obscene signs everywhere??
I guess some idiot took the terminally watery way out, and that’s too bad for those who survived them. But what kind of mind concocted these signs? Would it be too much to hope that they followed their own advice and called a number that advised against terminally polluting the landscape?
Ecch!
